About the Club

The Stowmarket Railway Club was founded in 1977 with the aim of stimulating interest in both Railways and Model Railways, and meets every Tuesday evening throughout the year at our clubrooms near Stowmarket.

The club has an extensive library of books and DVD's on railways and railway modelling which are available for members to borrow. We are also compiling an archive of information on the changing railway scene over the years, which concentrates on the section of line between Needham Market and Haughley Junction.

The club also organises a Model Railway Exhibition at the end of April each year and two Toy & Train Fairs (or Swapmeets) in March and October.Details of these events can be found on the Exhibition and Toy and Train Fair pages of this site.

On the modelling front, we have an 'O' gauge Exhibition layout called Nile Street Basin which we take out to shows several times a year. We also have a new 'OO' gauge layout which is currently under development and a multi-gauge Test Track which is permanently set up in the clubrooms. Please see the Layouts page for more details about our modelling activities.
